More planet size comparisons - part 1

A while back, I made a couple of charts comparing planet sizes and distances, and highly recommended a poster by Emily Lakdawalla. I actually made a few more charts last year that I just never got around to posting. Here they are—enjoy.

Largest Solar System bodies to scale (with Saturn shown without its rings for proper comparison of just the planets):

Select solid planets and moons of the Solar System to scale:

Planets, moons and select asteroids of the inner Solar System to scale:

And finally, here's one that illustrates my planet size classification system, using median values for each size class:

  1. Love these, I am interested in using your solid planets and moons image in an activity I'm developing for Dawn mission outreach (so happy to see Ceres!). Might that be possible?

    1. Absolutely! The images of each planet/moon are taken from NASA archive photos and renderings, and so are public domain. The rest was done by me, and I'm happy to see it put to good use. :)

  2. Dr. William Sheehan and I are writing a new popular-level book about the planets. We would like to use the image at the top of this page (http://www.alienrobotzombies.com/2012/06/more-planet-size-comparisons.html) captioned "Largest Solar System bodies to scale (with Saturn shown without its rings for proper comparison of just the planets)."

We write to ask for permission and how you would like to be credited.

    Sincerely,

    Prof. Thomas Hockey
